Which score should you send?

Convert both to the same scale and send the higher one. If they land on the same number, either is fine. To work out a score from a practice test first, use the ACT score calculator or the SAT score calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert an ACT score to an SAT score?

Use the official concordance table that College Board and ACT published together in 2018. It pairs every ACT Composite from 9 to 36 with an SAT total. A 30 on the ACT is a 1370 on the SAT, a 32 is a 1430, and a 34 is a 1500.

Is the 2018 conversion table still the official one?

Yes. It is the most recent concordance the two organizations have published together, and ACT still posts it as the table to use when comparing the two tests.

Why does one ACT score match several SAT scores?

The ACT Composite has 36 possible values and the SAT total has 121, so each ACT score covers a band of SAT scores. An ACT 30 covers SAT totals from 1360 to 1380. When a single number is needed, the table names one of them, which for a 30 is 1370.

Do colleges prefer the SAT or the ACT?

Colleges that consider test scores accept either one and use the concordance to compare them. Send whichever is stronger after conversion.
