Editorial Policy

Families use what we publish here to make high-stakes decisions: where to apply, how to prepare, who to hire. That deserves more than a quiet byline. This page explains exactly how our content gets made, so you don't have to take our word for it.

How our content is made

Our articles and data pages are drafted with AI assistance, grounded in named, checkable sources: the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard, official Common Data Set publications from each university, and the schools' own published admissions pages. New articles are fact-checked against those sources before they go live.

Admissions-strategy content — anything that tells a family what to do, not just what the data says — is reviewed by a named Dewey Smart mentor or counselor before publication, with the reviewer's name and review date shown directly on the article: clear and on the page, not buried in a footer.

This standard applies to everything we publish or update from August 2026 onward. Older articles are brought up to it as we refresh them.

What we never do

  • We never publish under a fabricated author or persona. Every byline is a real person.
  • We never invent statistics, quotes, or anecdotes to make a point land.
  • We never publish individual student data. Any figure drawn from our own students is aggregated first, and we don't publish a number unless at least 10 students are behind it.
  • We never make a success-rate claim we can't substantiate with a source we'd show you if you asked.

Corrections

If we got something wrong, tell us: support@deweysmart.com. We correct errors promptly, and when a correction changes a material fact or figure, we note it directly on the page.

Why trust our reviewers

The mentors and counselors who review our admissions-strategy content are current students or recent graduates of the schools we write about — not general-purpose writers. Where an article names a reviewer, that name links to their bio, so you can see exactly who is vouching for the advice.

You can meet the team behind that review process on our About Us page.
